Whereas the Linguistic Society of America celebrated its centennial in 2024, with the first issue of its journal “Language” appearing in 1925, it was in September 1926 (exactly a century ago) that the most ambitious early paper appeared: Leonard Bloomfield’s “A set of postulates for the science of language”.
